MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated Tennessee Wesleyan (1-1) by a score of 13-9 Wednesday evening in their 2026 opener inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
An evenly played first half saw the teams tied at five-all entering the half. Tia Chenard-McKercher scored twice for the Lions while Madison Welch, Abby Cleveland, and Cierra Ledeen also netted one goal apiece.
Mars Hill dominated play in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 6-2. Cleveland scored four of the Lions' goals. Reese Wachter and Grace Hinkel scored in the final 5:09 of the frame to send the Lions into the fourth up 11-7.
Wachter and Hinkel connected twice in the fourth as the latter scored two goals from Wachter passes.
Cleveland led all players with five points (5G) followed by Hinkel's four points (3G, 1A). Chenard-McKercher (2G, 1A) and Wachter (1G, 2A) ended the night with three points apiece.
Victoria Kaercher made nine stops on the day to pick up the win.
Mars Hill returns to the field on Saturday, February 14 when they host Ferrum. First draw control is set for 1 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
