Lincoln Memorial Defeats Volleyball
Lincoln Memorial defeated Mars Hill 3-0 on Tuesday night
HARROGATE, TENN. - The Mars Hill volleyball team lost 3-0 to Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday night in Mary Mars Gym. Lincoln Memorial prevailed by scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-13. LMU improves to 7-6 and 5-5 in league play while Mars Hill drops to 4-9 and 2-7.
Mary Kate Griffin and Lauren Hochstetler led the Lions with four kills, followed by three each from Rebecca Butler and Elizabeth Kaeser. Andie Russell and Victoria Kaiser led Mars Hill with nine digs, with Russell dishing out 13 assists.
Liz Brock and Kiera Holland each had seven kills to lead LMU. Abby Cash had a match-high 14 digs. Eight different players were part of 12 block assists for the Railsplitters.
The Railsplitters jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the first set before going on a 7-0 run to put the Lions away in the opening frame. Mars Hill used a pair of Butler kills and an LMU attack error to take a 3-1 lead in the second set before the Railsplitters took a 10-4 lead. The Lions would pull to within three, 11-8, before Lincoln Memorial went on an 11-1 run to take control of the second set.
A Maddie Spurgeon ace gave MHU a 6-5 lead in the third set before a pair of Brock kills and two Lion errors gave the hosts a 9-6 lead. Mars Hill pulled to within two points before a 5-0 LMU run made the score 14-7. The Lions would gain a point on a Hochstetler kill before four consecutive points gave the Railsplitters an 18-8 lead with Mars Hill coming no closer the rest of the way.
Mars Hill steps out of conference play this weekend to participate in the SAC/Peach Belt Crossover. Mars Hill will play USC Aiken at 3 p.m. and Augusta University at 6 p.m. on Friday in Aiken, S.C. before traveling to Lander on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.
