Mars Hill defeats Clinton with strong second half
Jaheim Taylor proves clutch with 17 second half points leading Lions to 3-0 record.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (3-0) defeated Clinton College (0-2) by a score of 81-76 Monday evening inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The teams were tied at 31 entering the second half and late in the frame, Mars Hill clawed their way past a persistent, scrappy Golden Bears team. A clutch three-pointer from Jaheim Taylor, three of his 17 second half points, clinched the game for the Lions, remaining undefeated after their third game in four days.
Mars Hill put up 50 points in the frame with Taylor's 17 leading the way. Christian Foy added nine while Keenan Wilkins added eight and a half-high four assists. Aljaz Vidmar added six points and three rebounds in the half. The team shot 54 percent from the floor, going 4-of-9 from beyond the arc.
A low-scoring first half, compared to their first two games, saw Mars Hill net 31 points. Taylor led the team with seven points while Alejandro Ford added five. Vidmar led all players with seven rebounds followed by six from Marvin Hires.
Taylor led all players with 24 points, hitting 13 free throws, adding five rebounds. Vidmar collected the double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Wilkins ended the night with 11 points and a team-high five assists and two steals. Hires pulled down eight rebounds and Ashton Troutman finished the night with seven points off the bench.
The Lions host Belmont Abbey for game four of their six-game homestand on Saturday, November 22 inside Chambers Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
