Wilkins sets career-high in win over Crusaders
Keenan Wilkins nets 20 in Lions' fourth straight win, tying best start in program history.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-0) defeated Belmont Abbey (0-2) Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium by a score of 84-71.
The first half saw Mars Hill lead 40-33 after 20 minutes had passed. Jaheim Taylor led all players with 13 points, followed by six from Christian Foy. The Lions dominated the boards, outrebounding Belmont Abbey 23-11, with Carby Martin's three offensive rebounds leading the way. Both he and Ashton Troutman ended the half with four rebounds apiece.
Mars Hill shot 46 percent from the floor in the second half with Keenan Wilkins' 15 points leading the way. Carson Evans, in five minutes, went a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor, including two three-pointers, for eight points. Troutman and Aljaz Vidmar led the team with three rebounds apiece.
Wilkins led the team with 20 points followed by 19 from Taylor. Taylor led the team with six assists while Troutman led the Lions with seven rebounds. Alejandro Ford led Mars Hill with four of their 12 steals on the day.
The Lions have now tied their best start to a season (2024; 4-0) by winning their first four games. They return to action on Sunday, November 30 when they host King for their fifth straight home game. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
