MHU defeats Coker in four
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (6-6, 3-4 SAC) defeated Coker (8-8, 4-4 SAC) in four sets Friday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions took the first set, outhitting Coker .175-.034, knocking down 14 kills. The Lions followed up in the second, hitting a match-high .196 to go up 2-0 in the match.
Coker, in the third, rebounded and hit a match-high .156 to send the match into a fourth set.
Mars Hill, regaining their form, closed out the match with their third set of 14 kills to pull even on the year with their sixth win.
Ioana Poenaru led the Lions with 13 kills followed by 12 from Skylar Ogden. Poenaru added 23 digs for the double-double. Laela Jimenez led all players with 35 digs, adding seven assists.
Alyssa Kornegay led the Lions with 19 assists and 13 digs for the double-double while Mackenzie Schmucker added 17 assists.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, October 14 when they host Emory & Henry. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
