Lions fall to Fayetteville State in five, rebound with four-set win over West Alabama.

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (2-1) split day two of the Trailblazer Invitational, hosted by North Greenville.
The Lions fell to Fayetteville State in five sets, but defeated West Alabama in four sets.
GAME ONE: FSU 3, MHU 2
After dropping sets one and two by identical scores of 25-20, the Lions responded by taking sets three and four by identical scores of 25-23. The Lions hit a team-high .275 in the third, racking up a team-high 14 kills in the frame.
In the fifth, Fayetteville State hit .250 to the Lions' -.032, knocking down eight kills to secure the win.
Ioana Poenaru led the Lions with 13 kills, adding nine digs. Both Jenna Rosenbaum and Brooke Hoffman added 10 kills apiece.
Alyssa Kornegay led the team with 25 assists and 10 digs for the double-double. Laela Jimenez led Mars Hill with 18 digs.
GAME TWO: MHU 3, UWA 1
Mars Hill roared back in game two, taking down West Alabama in four sets. They hit a match-high .393 in the second set, knocking down 14 kills on 28 attempts in the frame.
Ioana Poenaru once again led the Lions with 14 kills, hitting .387 on the day. The trio of Megan Lee Prezio, Jenna Rosenbaum, and Brooke Hoffman each knocked down seven kills apiece.
Alyssa Kornegay led the Lions with 15 assists while Mackenzie Schmucker added 12. Schmucker dug 11 balls for the double-double.
Laela Jimenez added 11 digs and nine assists.
Mars Hill returns to action on Friday, September 12 for their first home match of 2025 when they host Emmanuel. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
