MHU sweeps UVA Wise, 3-0

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (5-2, 2-0 SAC) swept UVA Wise (6-6, 1-3 SAC), 3-0, Tuesday evening inside Chambers Gymansium.
The Lions held UVA Wise to under a .100 hitting percentage in all three sets, outhitting the team .144-.019 throughout the night. Despite the Highland Cavaliers racking up 13 kills to the Lions' 11 in the first, Mars Hill took advantage of their 11 errors.
In the second, Mars Hill hit a match-high 14 kills and .216, holding UVA Wise to a -.028 hitting percentage.
The Lions, in the third, broke even with nine kills and nine errors, however, their service game took over, highlighted by two late aces off the hand of Alyssa Kornegay to secure their third straight win.
Both Selma Vassdal and Keira Links led the Lions with eight kills apiece. Vassdal hit a match-high .727 with no errors on 11 swings. Ioana Poenaru added six kills and eight digs.
Kornegay led the team with 16 assists and four aces while Laela Jimenez added a team-high 16 digs and three aces.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Friday, September 26, facing Lenoir-Rhyne. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
