ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team was defeated by Anderson in South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal action Tuesday evening on the road, falling in four sets.
The Lions took the first set, 25-16, hitting a team-best .214 with a team-high 14 kills. In the second, Anderson evened up the contest, forcing 11 Mars Hill errors while hitting nearly .200 in the set.
A tightly contested third frame saw the Trojans squeeze past Mars Hill, 25-23, to enter the fourth frame with the 2-1 advantage. Anderson, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, knocked down a match-high 18 kills in the fourth, defeating the No. 7 seeded Lions.
Ioana Poenaru recorded a team-high 16 kills, adding 18 digs for the double-double. Megan Lee Prezio added nine kills followed by seven from Selma Vassdal. Defensively, Vassdal led the Lions with six blocks, followed by five from Skylar Ogden.
Mackenzie Schmucker collected the double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs while Alyssa Kornegay led the team with 22 assists. Laela Jimenez led Mars Hill with 19 digs.
