DUE WEST, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (3-2) defeated Erskine (1-6) in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-16) on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Lions hit .324 in the first set, recording just one error on 37 attacks. They racked up 13 kills in the frame en route to taking the frame.
Mars Hill continued to roll their strong offensive attack, hitting a match-high .351 and collecting a match-high 16 kills. The Lions clinched the match with a solid third set, seeing the team hit .235 with 11 kills on 34 attempts.
Ioana Poenaru led all players with 17 kills, hitting a career-high .471 on the day. Brooke Hoffman added six kills with no errors on 13 attempts, hitting .462. Laela Jimenez led the team with 13 digs followed by 12 from Alyssa Kornegay and 11 from Mackenzie Schmucker.
Both Kornegay and Schmucker collected double-doubles with 17 and 10 assists apiece. The trio of Hoffman, Skylar Ogden, and Selma Vassdal each recorded two blocks.
Mars Hill returns to the court on Friday, September 19 when they host Lincoln Memorial. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
