WISE, Va. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (7-10, 4-8 SAC) was defeated in four sets by UVA Wise (12-10, 6-7 SAC) Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Cavaliers took the first set with a game-high 17 kills and .289 hitting percentage in the frame. The Lions responded in the second, hitting their match-best .237 with 13 kills.
Taking the third, UVA Wise was down late in the fourth. Despite knocking down a match-high 18 kills in the fourth, the Lions were unable to force a deciding fifth set.
Ioana Poenaru led the team with 15 kills, adding 12 digs for the double-double. Skylar Ogden hit a match-high .344 with 13 kills, adding six blocks.
Selma Vassdal led all players with seven blocks while Laela Jimenez led all players with 26 digs. She added 15 assists for a double-double.
Both Mackenzie Schmucker (16 digs & 15 assists) and Alyssa Kornegay (22 digs & 17 assists) each recorded double-doubles.
Mars Hill faces Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, October 28 on the road. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
