Baseball defeats North Greenville, 1-0
TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Mars Hill picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 decision over North Greenville at Ashmore Field. The Lions improve to 1-4. The Crusaders drop to 2-1.
The game between the Lions and Crusaders remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Mars Hill plated the first run with a two-out single by Brandon King, scoring Michael Bueker from second base.
The Lions stranded 12 runners during the nine innings of play, while the Crusaders stranded 11. North Greenville's best chance to tie the game came in the 7th inning after a leadoff single from John Reinholz. The Crusaders went on to load the bases, but with two outs, Mars Hill's Tyler Stephenson forced a Derek Fulmer fly out to left field.
Jon Bullington picked up the win. He threw six innings and allowed only four hits. Stephenson earned a save with two and one-third relief innings of one-hit ball.
Ryan Woodridge dropped the game. He surrendered one earned run on six hits in six and two-third innings.
Mars Hill will host Fairmont State on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game homestand. The first game on Friday is set to start at noon ET.
