Baseball Loses Game One at Anderson
ANDERSON, S.C. - Mars Hill lost the first contest of a three-game set at Anderson University, 4-3 Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Lions fell to 16-22 overall and 7-12 in the SAC. The Trojans improved to 16-21 on the season and 9-10 in the league.
Dalton Hardee, Coty Pate and Christian Diaz had three hits apiece to lead MHC offensively. Tyler Stephenson threw 6.2 innings and suffered the loss (3-4) on the mound. Blake May went 2-3 at the plate with a double and a pair of runs scored to lead the Trojans offensively. T.J. Estes threw a complete game striking out seven batters to pick up the win (3-2) for Anderson on the mound.
The Lions took a 1-0 advantage in their first at-bat when Michael Bueker scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Lewis. MHC then took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning after Hardee scored on a Trojan error.
The Trojans took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on two hits and one Lion miscue. All three of the runs were unearned. Anderson extended their lead to 4-2 in the seventh inning when Tony Price doubled to left field to drive in May. MHC scored one run in their last at-bat but Estes was able to hold on the one-run victory. MHC had a runner in scoring position with two outs in the ninth inning.
The teams will meet tomorrow at Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m. to
conclude the three-game series.
