Baseball Beats North Greenville
Lions record 19 hits in the win
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' baseball team extended their winning streak to four games as they defeated North Greenville University, 15-7, Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Field. MHC improved to 16-18 while the Crusaders fell to 18-9 on the season. The teams combined for 33 hits in the game.
Michael Bueker went 4-6 at the plate with a double, two RBI and
three runs scored. Rusty Smith and Coty Pate had three hits apiece.
Smith added three RBI and a homerun. Adam Lewis led the Lions in
the RBI category with five after hitting a grand slam in the third
inning to put the Lions up 5-0. Smith scored Bueker earlier in the
frame on a single up the middle.
Kyle Dietrich picked up the win pitching six innings allowing no
runs and striking out four Crusader batters. Justin Turner took the
loss (0-2) for NGU on the hill.
The Lions posted four runs in the fifth inning on four hits and then recorded the same number of runs in the sixth inning on six hits to lead 13-0. Smith had a two-RBI homerun in the sixth inning.
NGU fought back scoring six runs in the seventh frame on six hits highlighted by a three-RBI double from Derek Fulmer. The teams traded single runs in the next three at-bats to make the final tally 15-7 in favor of the hosts.
MHC will host SAC rival Carson-Newman College in a three-game
conference series this weekend. The teams will play a single game
on Friday at 3 p.m. and then meet for a double-header at noon on
Saturday.
