Baseball Splits Double-Header at St. Andrews
Bueker goes 7-10 at the plate
LAURINBURG, N.C. - Mars Hill's baseball team split a double-header at St. Andrews College Tuesday afternoon. The Lions fell 4-2 to the Knights in the first game and then won the nightcap, 16-3. MHC is now 12-16 on the season while SAPC went to 6-19 on the year.
Game 1: SAPC 4, MHC 2
Mars Hill led 2-0 after scoring single runs in the
first and third inning. St. Andrews tied the game in the bottom of
the third frame on three hits. The Knights plated the winning runs
in the sixth inning on three hits and one Lion error. Sebastian Ray
drove in the runs with a double to right center field.
Michael Bueker went 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Rusty Smith went 1-3 and had both of the Lions' RBI. Tim Crawford took the loss (0-3) for MHC on the mound.
Game 2: MHC 16, SAPC 3
The second game was all Mars Hill. The Lions scored
two runs in their first at bat and never looked back. MHC pounded
out 17 hits in the win. Mars Hill exploded for five runs in the
third inning on four hits highlighted by a three-run homerun from
Coty Pate. MHC then plated four runs in the third frame on four
hits and two Knight miscues to take an 11-1 lead.
After MHC scored two additional runs in the sixth inning, SAPC recorded their final run of the game in the bottom half of that inning. Mars Hill added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make the final tally, 16-3, in favor of the visitors. Dalton Hardee hit a double in the seventh that drove in two of the three runs.
Bueker again led MHC at the plate going 4-6 with two runs scored and an RBI. Brandon King went 3-6 with three RBI while Pate went 2-4 with a triple, a homerun and four RBI. Jon Bullington picked up the win (2-4) pitching five innings scattering six hits.
Mars Hill will play at UNC Pembroke on Wednesday. First pitch is
set for 2 p.m.
