Baseball Slugs Past Bluefield State
BLUEFIELD, W. Va. - Mars Hill won a slugfest at Bluefield State, 26-18, Monday afternoon at June O'Shott Field. The Lions improved to 20-25 on the year while the Blues fell to 7-19 on the season. The teams combined for 43 hits in the contest.
Mars Hill jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at-bat. The Lions then exploded for nine runs on the same number of hits and two BSC errors to lead 12-0 after the fourth inning. Mars Hill recorded nine additional runs in the fifth frame on seven hits and three BSC miscues to lead 21-0.
BSC finally got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth inning scoring a single run. The Lions answered with a four-run sixth inning to lead 25-1. The Blues made the game interesting in the bottom of the sixth frame after they put 11 runs on the board on nine hits to trim the deficit to 25-12. The Blues scored four runs in the seventh inning before MHC added their final run in the ninth. BSC scored two runs in their last at-bat to make the final tally, 26-18 in favor of the visitors.
Michael Bueker led MHC at the plate going 5-7 with four runs scored and two doubles. Rusty Smith and Adam Lewis had four hits apiece. The duo recorded three RBI each while Lewis hit three doubles in the win. Coty Pate led the team with four RBI. Jon Bullington picked up the win (4-4) on the mound.
Mars Hill will host King College on Tuesday, April 12. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
