Baseball Sweeps Fairmont State
Bueker records five hits and six runs in double-header
Mars Hill, N.C. - The Lions swept a double-header from Fairmont State Saturday afternoon at Henderson field by scores of 13-3 and 5-3. MHC improved to 3-4 while the Fighting Falcons fell to 0-2 on the season.
Game 1: MHC 13, FSU 3
The Lions pounded out 15 hits in a 13-3 rout over the
Falcons in game one. Michael Bueker led MHC going a perfect 4-4 at
the plate with a double and four runs scored. Dalton Hardee
followed going 3-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Kyle
Dietrich picked up the win (1-0) throwing six innings scattering
four hits.
Brandon King scored Bueker on a sacrifice fly in the first inning before MHC exploded for four runs in the third frame on four hits highlighted by a RBI double from Adam Lewis. The Lions tacked on three runs in the fourth inning. Brandon King drove in two of the three runs on a single to left.
FSU scored all of their runs in the sixth inning on three hits before MHC sealed the victory scoring five runs in the bottom half of that inning on five hits. Tyler Shuler had a two RBI double to left-center in the inning to pace the Lions.
Game 2: MHC 5, FSU 3
The nightcap was a closer affair. The Lions jumped
out to a 4-0 lead after their first at-bat on three hits and one
Falcon miscue. Rusty Smith recorded an RBI double in the inning.
FSU got on the board in the third inning scoring a single run and
then MHC ended their scoring in the fourth when Bueker crossed the
plate on a FSU error. The Falcons added a pair of runs in the fifth
inning but Tony Hearrell came in relief to seal the win and pick up
his first save of the year. Andy Runion threw five innings to
obtain his first win (1-0) as a Lion.
Bueker went 1-4 with a pair of runs scored. Lewis and Smith were both 1-3 with an RBI each. Smith added a double. Christian Diaz was 1-2 with an RBI.
The teams will conclude the four-game set tomorrow at 1 p.m. The
schedule has two seven inning games on the slate. Live statistics
