Baseball Wins Game Three at LMU
HARROGATE, Tenn. - Mars Hill defeated Lincoln memorial 9-4 in the final contest of a three-game set at Hennon Field. MHC improved to 11-15 overall and 5-7 in the SAC. LMU fell to 14-12 on the season and an even 6-6 in the league.
In the first inning, Lincoln Memorial took an early lead, as Cody Baker led off with a triple. After Joe Horsley was hit by a pitch, Juan Alvarez was able to drive in two runs with a double into the right-center gap. The Lions were able to score a run of their off of a homerun by Michael Brittian in the top of the second.
After scoring two more runs in the top of the third, Mars Hill took a 4-1 lead into the fourth. However, in that inning, the Lions were able to put five runs on the board, using RBI singles by Adam Lewis and Rusty Smith to give Mars Hill a 9-1 advantage.
Following four innings of scoreless baseball, the Railsplitters were able to cut into that lead in the eighth inning. With a single by John Couch and an error by the right fielder, LMU put two runs on the board. However, that would be the only offense that the Railsplitters could mount in the concluding innings, giving the Lions the victory, 9-4.
Cody Church was given the loss in the game, as he pitched 3.2 innings and allowed five runs. He moves to 3-2 on the season with the loss. Juan Alvarez and John Couch recorded the lone RBI of the game for the Railsplitters.
Tyler Stephenson threw seven innings scattering five hits to pick up the win (3-2) for MHC. Rusty Smith led MHC at the plate going 3-5 with four RBI and two doubles. Christian Diaz and Tyler Reboulet had two hits apiece.
The Lions will play at St. Andrews on March 15. The start of the double-header is slated for 1 p.m.
