Catawba Tops Mars Hill
MARS HILL, N.C. - Catawba College defeated Mars Hill 9-1 Sunday afternoon at Henderson Field. Catawba improved to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in the SAC. The Lions fell to 7-11 on the season and 2-4 in the league.
Catawba put the first run on the board in the second inning when Garrett Furr scored on a fielder's choice. The Catawba Indians scored a pair of runs in the fourth frame when John Neese doubled to plate Furr and Chris Dula.
Catawba then put five runs on the board in the fifth inning on
five hits and two Lion errors. Furr had a two-RBI double in the
inning.
Rusty Smith singled up the middle in the sixth inning to drive in
Dalton Hardee and make the score 8-1. Hardee reached base on a
single through the right side. Josh Hohn hit a solo homerun in the
ninth to make the final tally 9-1 in favor of the visitors.
Hohn, Furr, Neese and Brett Holmbren had two RBI apiece to lead Catawba at the plate. Furr and Neese recorded doubles. Austin Moyer threw seven innings allowing one run to pick up his third win (3-0) on the year.
Michael Bueker, Lewis and Brandon King tallied two hits each for the Lions. Tyler Reboulet added a double. Jonathan Bullington took the loss (1-3) on the mound for MHC.
Mars Hill will host Belmont Abbey in a single game on Wednesday,
March 2. First pitch I set for 2 p.m.
