Baseball Loses Close Game at Pfieffer
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Lions' baseball team lost a 3-2 decision at Pfeiffer University on the road Tuesday afternoon. MHC fell to 10-13 overall while the Falcons improved to 12-11 on the season.
Eight solid innings of work by Austin Campbell helped Pfeiffer
University take the 3-2 victory. Wednesday's return game at Mars
Hill has already been postponed due to incoming weather. No make-up
date has been announced.
Jacob Yates put the first run on the board in the fifth with a
RBI-single that scored Hunter Boehme from second. Kevin Price would
scoot to third on Yates' single, later scoring in the frame on a
sacrifice-fly to right off the bat of Matt Wade.
Mars Hill tallied a run just a half-inning later slicing the
deficit in half at 2-1. Christian Diaz would score from third on a
passed ball with one out as he started the Mars Hill sixth with a
base hit. After Pfeiffer took a 3-1 lead in the seventh, Price
would score on wild pitch by the Lions. Mars Hill made it a one-run
game with a Michael Brittian sac-fly in the eighth that scored
Diaz.
The Lions would threaten in the ninth with the tying-run in scoring
position, but Falcon closer Luke Wilhelm got a strikeout and fly
out to center preserving the win. Price led the Falcons at the
plate with two hits and two runs scored.
Dalton Hardee had three hits for Mars Hill. Rusty Smith had two
hits while Brittian had a hit and a RBI. Tim Crawford took the loss
(0-2) for MHC on the mound.
MHC will play a three-game series at Lincoln Memorial University
this weekend. The teams will meet for a single game on Friday at 4
